Starting my first blog with some very exciting news...

I am so delighted to be able to share the news that one of my screen-prints, 'Taken by Phillip" has been selected for one of the works shown in the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition! Of course, I am over the moon for this achievement and am so proud of myself for having the courage (and the glass of wine...!) that pushed me to enter!

About the print:
"Taken By Phillip" can be a confusing name for the print without my explanation. I wanted to create an image with a strong message of looking back at time in the past, a time that was so different to what we experience now. A time where people could freely drink with their partners in a lavender field whilst giving them a flirty look through the camera. My grandmother (Phyllis) and grandfather (Phillip) lived very simple lives by raising their two children in a small town, working Monday - Friday and spent their weekends together. They had little money and spent most of what they did have on their two boys and then years later, my sister and I. One thing I have always noticed about them, between their fiery arguments and eye-rolls at the end of the day, was that they fiercely, utterly and completely adored each other. They had a love people would die for and I feel so lucky that I not only witnessed it, but can make work portraying this story.
